Mandevi started out as a self taught artist, but has recently taken classes at FIT and the Art League of New York. She has also studied in
Madrid, Spain.
She is the daughter of Indian Guyanese immigrants and was born and raised in
Brooklyn, New York. She was always interested in capturing the beauty around her, but it wasn’t until later in life that she picked up a brush and started painting. She hasn’t put her brush down since. Her passion for art is not only about capturing beauty but also to illuminate social conditions. She thinks art should inspire, uplift, motivate or create change.
She loves the old masters and aspires to learn their techniques. She appreciates the abstract expressionism movement, but right now loves form and classical depictions.
Mandevi is an accomplished painter with many of her works displayed in private homes as well as some prominent
New York offices, such as the law offices of Fitelson, Lasky, Aslan & Couture and Air America Radio headquarters.
Mandevi is a full time professional artist who lives in
New York City with her art historian husband, two dogs and cat.
